Poland Open: Veteran Maria reaches semi-finals

German Tatjana Maria reached the semi-finals of the Poland Open by defeating Slovak qualifier Rebecca Sramkova 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 at the Legia Tennis Centre in Warsaw on Friday afternoon.

Maria, ranked No 65, will face the winner of the match between Italian Lucrezia Stefanini and German Laura Siegemund next.

Earlier in the tournament, the 35-year-old German won against Serb lucky loser Natalija Stevanovic (6-3, 6-1) and Dane Clara Tauson (6-4, 6-0).

Sramkova, ranked No 174, won against Pole wildcard Weronika Ewald (6-2, 6-2) and edged out second seed Karolina Muchova (7-5, 3-6, 7-5) in the previous rounds of the Warsaw tournament.
