Preston beats fellow Australian Inglis to win Odlum Brown VanOpen

Taylah Preston beat No. 8 seed and compatriot Maddison Inglis 7-6 (5), 6-3 on Saturday to win the Odlum Brown VanOpen, a WTA 125 event in Vancouver. The No. 3 seed, ranked No. 119, claimed the title in an all-Australian final.

Preston came through a tough draw to reach the final, beating No. 2 seed Mananchaya Sawangkaew of Thailand 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 in the semi-finals after also getting past No. 7 seed Harriet Dart of England 6-3, 6-3, Priscilla Hon 7-6 (3), 6-4, and Japan’s Haruka Kaji 6-0, 6-2 earlier in the week. It is her second WTA 125 title of the season, after also winning the Ando Securities Open earlier this year.

Inglis, ranked No. 150, had reached the final by beating Japan’s Mai Hontama 6-3, 6-4, top seed Moyuka Uchijima of Japan 6-4, 6-7 (9), 6-3, Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas 6-3, 6-3 and Greet Minnen of Belgium 6-1, 6-3.
