Qatar Open: Ostapenko upsets Paolini to reach quarter-finals

Latvian Jelena Ostapenko reached the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open by winning against Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 4 seed, 6-2, 6-2 at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Wednesday afternoon.
Ostapenko, ranked No 37, will face the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur and American wildcard Sofia Kenin next.
The Latvian defeated Japanese qualifier Aoi Ito (6-2, 6-1) and Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 16 seed (7-6 (5), 7-5) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Qatar tournament, Paolini, ranked No 4, beat French wildcard Caroline Garcia (6-3, 6-4).
