Swiatek moves into last 4 at Doha via Bencic retirement

Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Qatar Open after Swiss Belinda Bencic, the No 7 seed, withdrew before the match at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha on Thursday evening.

Swiatek, ranked No 1, will play the winner of the match between American Coco Gauff, the No 4 seed, and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Doha Open, the 21-year-old Pole defeated American Danielle Collins (6-0, 6-1).

Bencic, ranked No 9, won against Bulgarian qualifier Viktoriya Tomova (6-0, 6-1) and edged out Belarusian wildcard Victoria Azarenka (1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
