Australian Maya Joint advanced to the quarter-finals of the Rabat Open by defeating American Katie Volynets, the No 9 seed, 6-0, 6-3 at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc on Wednesday.
Joint, ranked No 78, will face the winner of the match between No 4 seed Ann Li and Hailey Baptiste next.
The 19-year-old Australian won against Croat Ana Konjuh (7-5, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Rabat tournament, Volynets, ranked No 64, won against Brazilian lucky loser Carolina M. Alves (6-3, 6-0).
