19-year-old Iga Swiatek has achieved one of her big goals by breaking into the world’s top 10 after winning the Internazionali BNL d’Italia on Sunday.

Swiatek needed only 46 minutes to defeat former Rome champion Karolina Pliskova 6-0, 6-0 and make her top 10 debut in the rankings.

“Yeah, it is pretty crazy and I’m really proud of myself that I’m actually starting to be more consistent, because that was my goal from the beginning. Actually, I feel right now that I am doing huge progress in that matter. But it was actually a bit frustrating after French Open, because sometimes you can’t, you know, see the result of your work. Obviously winning a Grand Slam is great, but after that comes rankings, and this year it was different.”

“So I’m really proud that I’m gonna have, you know, in my résumé that I’m top 10, because I always wanted that. Yeah, I also want to be consistent. So right now our goal is to, you know, keep me in that place and go further.”
