Fifth seed Alize Cornet reached the second round of the Rouen Open by edging out countrywoman Jessika Ponchet 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at Palais des sports de Rouen on Tuesday.
Cornet, ranked No 121, will face Hungarian Dalma Galfi next.
