Rouen Open: Garcia eases past home hope Ruse to make semi-finals

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed, moved into the last 4 of the Rouen Open by beating Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-3, 6-4 at the Kindarena.

Garcia, ranked No 23, will face American Sloane Stephens, the No 6 seed, next.

The Frenchwoman edged out Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-1, 3-6, 7-5) and beat Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-1, 6-0) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of the Rouen tournament, Ruse, ranked No 162, defeated Japanese Nao Hibino (6-2, 6-1) and Frenchwoman Clara Burel, the No 7 seed (6-0, 2-6, 6-3).
