Rouen Open: Garcia storms into last eight

Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed, advanced to the last eight of the Rouen Open by winning against Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-1, 6-0 at the Kindarena on Thursday evening.

Garcia, ranked No 23, will face Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse next.

The Frenchwoman edged out Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (6-1, 3-6, 7-5) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Rouen tournament, Schmiedlova, ranked No 68, benefited from the abandonment of Frenchwoman Diane Parry (3-6, 3-1).
