Top seed Sabalenka books spot in Libema Open semi-finals

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka moved into the last four of the Dutch Open by edging out Belgian Alison van Uytvanck 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 [5] at ‘s-Hertogenbosch on Friday.

Sabalenka, ranked world No 6 after dropping from a career-high of world No 2, will face the winner of the match between American Shelby Rogers and Belgian Kirsten Flipkens next.

The Belarusian won against Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl (6-4, 6-1) and Dutchwoman wildcard Arianne Hartono (6-2, 6-3) in the previous rounds, while van Uytvanck, ranked No 46, defeated German Tamara Korpatsch (6-4, 7-5) and No 8 seed Elise Mertens (6-2, 6-3).

24-year-old Sabalenka was seeded seventh at Roland-Garros but lost in the third round to Camila Giorgi.

She will be unable to play at Wimbledon because of the tournament’s ban on Belarusian and Russian players due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
