Canadian wildcard Bianca Andreescu edged out Japanese wildcard Naomi Osaka – 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3) – to advance to the last 4 of the’s-Hertogenbosch Open at Autotron Rosmalen on Friday afternoon.
Andreescu, ranked No 228, will play Hungarian qualifier Dalma Galfi next. It will be the second semi-final or her career on grass, after her final in Bad Hombourg in 2022.
Andreescu is only playing in her second event in nine months. Injured to her back after the Toronto WTA 1000 in August 2023, she returned to competition at Roland-Garros this season (where she lost in the third round to future finalist Jasmine Paolini).
The Canadian defeated Dutch qualifier Eva Vedder (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 6 seed (6-4, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the Rosmalen tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Osaka, ranked No 125, won against Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 4 seed (6-2, 6-4) and Dutch wildcard Suzan Lamens (6-2, 6-2).
