Russian Elina Avanesyan beat Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 7-5 to reach the last 16 of the San Luis Potosi Open on Tuesday night.

Avanesyan, ranked No 165, will play Cypriot Raluka Serban next.
