Strasbourg Open: Pera joins Burel in quarter-finals

American Bernarda Pera, the No 4 seed, defeated Australian Kimberly Birrell in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) to advance to the quarter-finals of the Strasbourg on Tuesday.
Pera, ranked No 38, will now play against Frenchwoman Clara Burel for a spot into the semi-finals.
The American won against lucky loser Sophie Chang (6-4, 4-6, 6-1) in the previous round of the Strasbourg tournament.
In the previous round of the Strasbourg tournament, Birrell, ranked No 111, beat Estonian qualifier Elena Malygina (6-2, 6-3).
