Russian Liudmila Samsonova defeated American Bernarda Pera 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the final of the Tennis in the Land at Cleveland’s iconic Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in Flats West Bank on Friday night.

Samsonova, ranked No 45, will play Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the No 7 seed, next.

Ahead of her victory, the Russian won against Belarusian lucky loser Iryna Shymanovich (6-1, 6-0), German qualifier Laura Siegemund (6-2, 6-1) and Pole Magda Linette (6-4, 6-3).

Pera, ranked No 51, beat Japanese qualifier Eri Hozumi (6-1, 6-2), Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the top seed (6-4, 6-1) and wildcard Sofia Kenin (6-2, 5-7, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
