Thailand Open: Andreescu survives late wobble to reach semi-finals

Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the top seed, survived a late wobble before reaching the semi-finals of the Thailand Open by defeating Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 5 seed, 6-0, 7-6 (3) at the True Arena Hua Hin on Friday afternoon.

The former US Open champion led 6-0, 5-1 and was broken twice when serving for the match at 5-4 but made no mistake in the tiebreak as she claimed victory. The world No 42, will play Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko next.

The 22-year-old Canadian won against Harriet Dart (6-3, 6-4) and Russian Anastasia Zakharova (6-2, 7-5) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of the Hua Hin tournament, Kostyuk, ranked No 60, beat qualifier En-Shuo Liang (6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-0) and Japanese Nao Hibino (6-3, 7-6 (7)).
