Italian Sara Errani edged out Spanish qualifier Rebeka Masarova 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Friday.
Errani, ranked No 115, will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl and Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 35-year-old Italian won against Romanian wildcard Ioana Loredana Rosca (6-1, 6-0) and Hungarian Dalma Galfi, the No 8 seed (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).
Masarova, ranked No 199, edged out Romanian Gabriela Lee (3-6, 6-2, 6-4) and beat Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
