Italian Sara Errani, the No 4 seed, advanced to the last four of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy by winning against German Noma Noha Akugue, the No 7 seed, 7-5, 6-2 on Friday night.
Errani, ranked No 115, will play the winner of the match between Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 8 seed, and Romanian wildcard Anca Alexia Todoni next.
The 36-year-old Italian defeated Dutch lucky loser Suzan Lamens (6-0, 6-2) and Romanian qualifier Maria Sara Popa (6-4, 6-1) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Noha Akugue, ranked No 165, won against Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska (6-3, 6-4) and Romanian wildcard Ilinca Amariei (7-6 (4), 6-1).
