Liechtensteiner Kathinka von Deichmann beat Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the top seed, 7-6 (4), 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Friday.
Von Deichmann, ranked No 199, will play the winner of the match between Romanian wildcard Patricia Maria Tig and Dutchwoman Anouk Koevermans next.
Ahead of her victory, the Liechtensteiner won against Frenchwoman Selena Janicijevic, the No 6 seed (6-1, 6-3) and Greek Despina Papamichail (2-6, 6-1, 6-2).
Carle, ranked No 81, edged out Romanian wildcard Maria Sara Popa (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) and won against Portuguese Francisca Jorge (6-1, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
