Tokyo Open: Kudermetova through to last four defeating Haddad Maia
Veronika Kudermetova won against Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6), 6-1 on Friday night and will play the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng and American Claire Liu in the next round

Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 4 seed, won against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 5 seed, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6), 6-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Tokyo Open at the Ariake Coliseum and Ariake Tennis Forest Park on Friday night.
Kudermetova, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng and American Claire Liu next.
Haddad Maia, ranked No 16, won against Japanese wildcard Yuki Naito (6-4, 6-2) and Japanese Naomi Osaka (W/O) earlier in the tournament. Ahead of her victory, the Russian beat Mexican qualifier Fernanda Contreras Gomez (6-0, 6-1).
