Tokyo: Tomova falls to Shnaider in second round
The Russian will face the winner of the match between Japanese qualifier Sayaka Ishii and qualifier Zeynep Sonmez in the next round

Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 6 seed, beat Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 6-2, 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the WTA Toray Pan Pacific Open at the Ariake Coliseum on Wednesday.
Shnaider, ranked No 16, will play the winner of the match between Japanese qualifier Sayaka Ishii and qualifier Zeynep Sonmez next.
In the previous round of the tournament, Tomova, ranked No 49, won against Russian Veronika Kudermetova (7-6 (3), 6-3).
