Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 6 seed, beat Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail 6-4, 6-4 to reach the last eight of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament on Thursday night.
Kasatkina, ranked No 13, will play American Jessica Pegula, the second seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Russian won against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (3-6, 6-4, 6-3).
Papamichail, ranked No 220, defeated Japanese lucky loser Sakura Hosogi (7-6 (3), 7-5) in the previous round.
