Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail defeated Japanese lucky loser Sakura Hosogi 7-6 (3), 7-5 to move into the last 16 of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament on Tuesday night.
Papamichail, ranked No 220, will face the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 6 seed, and Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk next.
