American Jessica Pegula, the second seed, beat Spaniard Cristina Bucsa 6-1, 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament on Wednesday.
The American has now won 10 of her past 12 matches, and is well placed to qualify for the 2023 WTA Finals in Cancun later next month.
Pegula, ranked No 4, will play the winner of the match between Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 6 seed, and Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail next.
In the previous round, Bucsa, ranked No 79, won against Japanese qualifier Rina Saigo (6-1, 6-2).
