Russian qualifier Ekaterina Makarova beat Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 7 seed, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 to reach the second round of the Transylvania Open at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca on Monday.
Makarova, ranked No 213, will play Romanian Patricia Maria Tig next.
