Trophée Clarins: Volynets advances to semi-finals

American Katie Volynets advanced to the semi-finals of the Trophée Clarins by beating Frenchwoman Alize Cornet, the No 7 seed, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 at the Lagardère Paris Racing on Friday.

Volynets, ranked No 102, will play American Catherine McNally, the No 6 seed, next.

Earlier in the tournament, the 21-year-old American won against Canadian qualifier Carol Zhao (6-0, 7-6 (9)) and Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, the top seed (6-3, 6-3).

Cornet, ranked No 64, defeated American Ashlyn Krueger (7-6 (6), 6-3) and Su Jeong Jang (6-1, 7-5) in the previous rounds.
