Veneto Open: Krueger reaches last four

American Ashlyn Krueger moved into the semi-finals of the Veneto Open by defeating Italian Lucrezia Stefanini, the No 7 seed, 6-2, 6-1 at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Friday afternoon.

Krueger, ranked No 143, will face the winner of the match between American Robin Montgomery and Belgian Ysaline Bonaventure, the No 3 seed, next.

The 19-year-old American won against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (6-3, 6-2) and Katie Swan (6-3, 4-6, 5-5 ret.) ahead of her victory.

In the previous rounds of the Gaiba tournament, Stefanini, ranked No 118, edged out Belgian Magali Kempen (3-6, 6-2, 7-5) and beat Russian Evgeniya Rodina (6-2, 6-4).
