It has been a tale of two very different seasons for Russian Diana Shnaider and Chinese veteran Shuai Zhang, so their result on Wednesday at the Western & Southern Open was no surprise.
Shnaider rolled 6-1, 6-4 to continue her breakout year while extending Zhang’s unbelievable losing streak. The 35-year-old has now lost 22 matches in a row, breaking the Open Era record on either the WTA or ATP Tour. She has not won a match in 19 months.
Shnaider, who is up to No 20 in the rankings, will play American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger in the next round on Thursday.
