No 10 seed Marketa Vondrousova beat American Sloane Stephens 7-5, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Western & Southern Open at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Cincinnati on Thursday evening.
Vondrousova, ranked No 10, will face the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Chinese Qinwen Zheng next.

Marketa Vondrousova won against Katerina Siniakova (7-5, 6-4) and Russian Anastasia Potapova (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Stephens, ranked No 38, won against Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (7-5, 6-2) and edged out Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 6 seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).
