Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk edged out American lucky loser Taylor Townsend 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Adelaide Open at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park on Wednesday night.
Kostyuk, ranked No 41, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 6 seed, next.
The 21-year-old Ukrainian won against Anhelina Kalinina (7-6 (3), 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Adelaide tournament, Townsend, ranked No 80, beat Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich (6-3, 7-6 (4)).
