In their fourth meeting of the year, Daria Kasatkina beat top seed Barbora Krejcikova 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 at the WTA Elite Trophy.
The Czech had won their most recent meeting, in the Zhengzhou semi-finals, and had won eight of her last 10 matches. Indeed, a win here would have secured her victory in the Azalea Group.
But world No 17 Kasatkina prevailed to get her third Top 10 win of the year in her second appearance in Zhuhai – five years on from her debut.
