WTA joins forces with tennis governing bodies to protect players from online abuse

The WTA Tour is working with tennis’ governing bodies in a bid to protect the players from online abuse

The menace of online abuse has been a growing one for players in recent years. Players on the WTA and ATP Tours are subject to hate comments and even death threats after they lose matches, often from irate gamblers.

In a bid to tackle this, the WTA Tour has joined forced with tennis’ governing bodies to protect the players.

The WTA is working with the ITF, WTA, AELTC and USTA on the initiative. The players will use Threat Matrix — a specialist service developed by AI company Signify Group.

The service will begin in on January1, 2024. The service will cover all partner tournaments sanctioned by the organisations involved and any player who competes regularly in an ITF World Tennis Tour, or WTA Tour event, Wimbledon and the US Open.
