USA cruise into Davis Cup finals
Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek won the decisive point in Saturday’s doubles as the USA eased past Uzbekistan

The United States always looked likely to come through their Davis Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan and so it proved as they wrapped up a comfortable win in Tashkent on Saturday.
Leading 2-0 from day one, Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek sealed the victory when they beat Uzbekistan’s Sanjar Fayziev and Sergey Fomin 6-2, 6-4 victory in 52 minutes.
The victory means the US go through to the Davis Cup finals group stage.
“I was excited to see Raj and Austin play today,” temporary captain David Nainkin said, quoted by DavisCup.com. “They’ve practised well all week, they had five great days of preparation and as anticipated they came out really sharp and got the early break in the first set. After that it was like two freight trains, there was no stopping them.”
The US are chasing their 33rd Davis Cup title and with the likes of Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe to come in down the line, they will fancy their chances. But Nainkin is staying grounded.
“It’s one step at a time,” he said. 2The first step is to actually qualify and that’s what we’ve done, but we don’t really look further than that and well done to everybody that was involved in this process and we look forward to the next steps.”
