Madrid Open: Badosa battles into third round; plays Gauff next
Paula Badosa edged out Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 on Thursday and will face American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, in the next round

Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 26 seed, reached the third round of the Madrid Open by edging out Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at the Caja Magica on Thursday.
Badosa, ranked No 42, will play American Coco Gauff, the No 6 seed, next.
Cocciaretto, ranked No 50, won against Czech Barbora Strycova (6-3, 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
