Tennis moves closer to bidding adieu to on-court line judges as ATP moves to Electronic Line Calling from 2025
The Electronic Line Calling system first used at the ATP Next Gen Finals in 2017 will be used on all courts on the ATP Tour starting from 2025

The ATP Tour has announced that the men’s tour will move to using Electronic Line Calling Live (ELC Live) on all courts from 2025. This means that on-court line judges will no longer be part of the matches on the men’s tour.
ELC Live was first used at the 2017 ATP Next Gen Finals in Milan and its adoption increased rapdily during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a landmark moment for our sport, and not one we’ve reached without careful consideration,” Andrea Gaudenzi, the Chairman of the ATP Tour said in a statement released. “Tradition is core to tennis and line judges have played an important part in the game over the years. That said, we have a responsibility to embrace innovation and new technologies. Our sport deserves the most accurate form of officiating and we’re delighted to be able to deliver this across our whole Tour from 2025.”
As per the ATP statement, the testing of ELC Live for clay is underway while they have already been used on hardcourts and grass surfaces.
