Madrid Open: Kudermetova makes quarter-finals after final-set tiebreak against Kasatkina
Veronika Kudermetova edged out Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2) on Monday and will face the winner of the match between American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, and Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 18 seed, in the next round

No 12 seed Veronika Kudermetova edged out No 8 seed Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 (2) to move into the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open at the Caja Magica on Monday.
Kudermetova, ranked No 13, will play the winner of the match between American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed, and Italian Martina Trevisan, the No 18 seed, next.
Veronika Kudermetova won against Spanish qualifier Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-3, 4-6, 6-2) and No 21 seed Anastasia Potapova (7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
Earlier in the tournament, Kasatkina, ranked No 8, defeated Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (6-4, 6-3) and Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (6-4, 6-2).
