Krejcikova through to San Diego final against Kenin

Fourth seed Barbora Krejcikova came from a set down to defeat American Danielle Collins and advance to the final of Cymbiotika San Diego Open on Friday.

The Czech needed two hours and 22 minutes to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 to set up a final showdown against fellow Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin. The American defeated countrywoman Emma Navarro in the second semi-final on Friday.

Krejcikova, ranked No 13 in the world, will move back into the world’s top 10 next week after her run in San Diego. This is the third final in 2023 for the Czech, who won in Dubai and finished runner-up in Birmingham and reverses a poor run of form in recent weeks. She lost her opening matches in Cincinnati, Cleveland and the US Open before this week.

The Czech had won against Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-3, 6-2) and Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-3) in the previous rounds.

On the other hand, Collins, ranked No 43 and a former Australian Open runner-up, won against qualifier Louisa Chirico (7-5, 6-0), Latvian Jelena Ostapenko (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the second seed (6-2, 6-3) earlier in the week.
