American Taylor Townsend won against Australian wildcard Ajla Tomljanovic 7-6 (3), 6-4 to move into the last 32 of the Guadalajara Open Akron on Sunday night.
Townsend, ranked No 104, will face No 5 seed Belinda Bencic next.
