Kyrgios postpones his comeback again, Nishioka replaces him in field for UTS Seoul

Kyrgios is still battling to overcome a wrist injury, having played just one match all year

The organizers of UTS Seoul have announced the postponement of UTS Seoul. The next UTS event will therefore be the Grand Final, in London, from December 15 to 17, 2023, at ExCel London.

Japan’s No 1 Yoshihito Nishioka will replace the injured Nick Kyrgios in the field for UTS Seoul, which begins on December 1. Kyrgios is still unavailable due to a wrist injury, UTS Tour announced on social media. It is unclear if it’s the same injury as the one which led Kyrgios to withdraw from Wimbledon.

Kyrgios also missed the Australian Open because of a knee injury, which needed surgery, and did not play the French Open. In fact, he has played just one match in 2023.

Kyrgios out because of wrist injury

Nishioka, the world No 48, joins Alexander Bublik (The Bublik Enemy), Richard Gasquet (The Virtuoso), Milos Raonic (The Missile), Gael Monfils (La Monf), Jan-Lennard Struff (The Thunder), home favourite Soonwoo Kwon (The Machine) and Reilly Opelka (The Bot) in the eight-man field.

Nishioka has won two ATP Tour titles, and reached his fifth career final, in Zhuhai, earlier this year. He also reached the last 16 of the Australian Open and French Opens in 2023, the first time the 28-year-old left-hander has made it that far in any slam.

The winner in Seoul will qualify for the UTS Grand Final, which will take place in London in December.

Five men – Andrey Rublev (Rublo), Holger Rune (The Viking), Casper Ruud (The Iceman), Jack Draper and Gael Monfils (La Monf) – are booked in for London, with three places still up for grabs.
