Slovenian Polona Hercog won against Ukrainian Valeriya Strakhova 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 to advance to the last 8 of the Argentina Open at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday evening.
Hercog, ranked No 292, will play the winner of the match between Romanian Miriam Bulgaru and Argentinian Julia Riera, the No 7 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the Slovenian benefited from the abandonment of Frenchwoman Carole Monnet, the No 9 seed (6-4, 0-2).
Strakhova, ranked No 280, benefited from the abandonment of Argentinian wildcard Guillermina Naya (7-5, 5-7, 2-1) in the previous round of the Argentinian tournament.
