No 5 seed Maria Lourdes Carle advanced to the last 4 of the Montevideo Open by defeating No 4 seed Julia Riera 6-4, 6-0 at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club.
Carle, ranked No 140, will play Mexican Renata Zarazua, the second seed, next.
Maria Lourdes Carle won against Ukrainian Valeriya Strakhova (6-4, 6-3) and Slovenian Polona Hercog (6-0, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds of the Uruguayan tournament, Riera, ranked No 148, won against Brazilian Carolina M. Alves (6-3, 6-1) and Ipek Oz (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).
