WTA Auckland: Navarro through to semis; faces top seed Gauff next

American Emma Navarro, the No 4 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Auckland Open by winning against Croat Petra Martic, the No 7 seed, 6-4, 6-3 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Friday.
Navarro, ranked No 31 in the world, will play countrywoman Coco Gauff, the top seed and defending champion, next.
In the previous rounds of the Auckland tournament, the 22-year-old American defeated Linda Fruhvirtova (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Russian Elina Avanesyan (6-1, 6-2). Martic, ranked No 41, beat Spaniard Rebeka Masarova (3-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Chinese Yue Yuan (6-2, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
