Frenchman Luca van Assche reached the second round of the Miami Masters by winning against Russian Pavel Kotov 6-3, 7-5 at the Hard Rock Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Van Assche, ranked No 80, will play No 7 seed Casper Ruud next.
