Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry, the No 13 seed, edged out American Brandon Nakashima 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to reach the last 8 of the Barcelona Open at Real Club de Tenis Barcelona on Thursday.
Etcheverry, ranked No 30, will play No 12 seed Cameron Norrie next.
In the previous round of the Barcelona tournament, the Argentinian won against Dominican qualifier Nick Hardt (7-5, 6-2).
Nakashima, ranked No 87, beat Daniel Evans (7-6 (5), 6-2) and Russian Andrey Rublev, the second seed (6-4, 7-6 (6)) in the previous rounds of the Barcelona tournament.
