Hamburg European Open: Rus cruises into semi-finals

Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, the No 3 seed this week, moved into the semi-finals of the Hamburg European Open by progressing against Russian Polina Kudermetova in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) on Thursday afternoon.
Rus, who is ranked outside the world’s top 100, will face the winner of the match between Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse and German Tamara Korpatsch, the second seed, on Friday.
Earlier in the tournament, the 33-year-old Dutchman beat Suzan Lamens (6-1, 6-4) and Croat Lea Boskovic (6-1, 6-1).
Kudermetova, ranked No 173, had previously won against German wildcard Johanna Silva (6-2, 6-3) and Croat Jana Fett, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-3).
