Guangzhou Open: Qualifier Sawangkaew upsets Yuan to reach quarter-finals
Mananchaya Sawangkaew won against Yue Yuan 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday and will play Serb Olga Danilovic in the next round
Thai qualifier Mananchaya Sawangkaew advanced to the last eight of the Guangzhou Open by defeating Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 3 seed, 6-2, 6-3 at the Nansha International Tennis Center.
Sawangkaew, ranked No 163, will face Serb Olga Danilovic next.
In the previous round of the Guangzhou tournament, the 22-year-old Thai won against German lucky loser Ella Seidel (6-1, 2-6, 6-2).
Yuan, ranked No 44, beat Belgian Greet Minnen (7-6 (2), 6-1) in the previous round of the Guangzhou tournament.
