Serb Nina Stojanovic advanced to the last eight of the Mérida Open by winning against Canadian Marina Stakusic 6-3, 6-3 at the Yucatan Country Club on Thursday evening.
Nina Stojanovic will face the winner of the match between American Varvara Lepchenko and Russian Polina Kudermetova next.
In the previous round of the Mérida tournament, the Serb defeated German Tatjana Maria, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4).
Stakusic, ranked No 116, edged out Australian Maya Joint (2-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2)) during the first round of the Mérida tournament.
