WTA Hobart: Kessler through to second final with win over Avanesyan
The American will play the winner of the match between Australian wildcard Maya Joint and Belgian Elise Mertens, the second seed, in the final

American McCartney Kessler moved into the final of the WTA Hobart International by edging out Armenian Elina Avanesyan, the No 6 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Friday.
Kessler, ranked No 67, will face the winner of the match between Australian wildcard Maya Joint and Belgian Elise Mertens, the second seed, for the title at Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre
The American beat Slovak Rebecca Sramkova, the No 7 seed (6-3, 7-5), Argentinian qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle (6-2, 6-2) and Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the top seed (7-5, 6-4) in the previous rounds of the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Avanesyan, ranked No 44, won against Chinese qualifier Xiyu Wang (6-3, 7-5), Belgian qualifier Greet Minnen (6-2, 6-2) and American Amanda Anisimova, the No 3 seed (W/O).
