Argentina Open: Schwartzman delays retirement by beating seventh seed Jarry
The Argentinian is playing the last event of his professional career

Argentinian wildcard Diego Schwartzman reached the second round of the Argentina Open by winning against Chilean Nicolas Jarry, the No 7 seed, 7-6 (10), 4-6, 6-3 at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club on Wednesday evening.
Schwartzman, who is playing his last professional event, collected his first top 50 victory since October 2023 – and said after the win:
“After many months without playing, I played a little bit in Rosario, I played great tennis with the champion Camilo Ugo (Carabelli) – but I didn’t expect to win, to be honest. I played a good match, played some good points, he was playing a little bit nervous, a little bit more than usual, so I took my chances in the third.”
“I was expecting after the match to cry a little bit, be ready for some emotion, and not for the win. Now I have some recovery, and let’s see how I do in the next round.”

Schwartzman, ranked No 386, will face Spaniard Pedro Martinez Portero next.
