Dubai Open: Berrettini beats qualifier O’Connell to move into last eight

Italian Matteo Berrettini moved into the last eight of the Dubai Open by defeating Australian qualifier Christopher O’Connell 7-6 (2), 6-2 at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre.
Berrettini, ranked No 30, will play the winner of the match between Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the No 4 seed, and Russian Karen Khachanov next.
Ahead of his victory, the Italian won against Frenchman Gael Monfils (7-5, 6-4).
O’Connell, ranked No 75, benefited from the abandonment of Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 6 seed (6-0) in the previous round of the Dubai tournament.
