Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina defeated American Ben Shelton, the No 11 seed, 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-1 to reach the second round of the Monte-Carlo Masters at Monte-Carlo Country Club on Monday evening.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 42, will face the winner of the match between Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry and French qualifier Corentin Moutet next.
